The writing and recording process for the follow up to 2013’s Ascension began around the time I began attending Brandon University later that same year. Due to the workload associated with University, progress on the album was slower than previous albums. By early 2016 it was evident that the collection of tracks that had been recorded didn’t all quite fit with each other musically. This is when I decided to split the existing tracks between two separate albums: Derelict World and Dark Woods. Derelict World draws from Science fiction ideas and Norse Mythology, seamlessly blending them together. In the summer of 2020, I revisited this album to make improvements to the sound/mix/recordings to give this album the professional sound it deserves!

The opening track "Derelict World" depicts a world where its sentient population simply vanished an unknown time ago. Nature has gradually started to take back the neglected cities and infrastructure left behind. What would it be like to walk through these abandoned boulevards. Some of the guitar riffs were surely influenced by The Tragically Hip.

With "The Smirk" we find ourselves not needing to worry about alternate realities or vikings. It's got some pretty hip-hop type rhythms, especially the opening musical idea that threads the whole piece together.

Légende No. 1 Pélagique is a more upbeat track. Pelagial mean 'of the ocean' which fits well with the larger Norse theme. Many have compared the middle section as something that belongs in a Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack.

Runic Accolade continues the Viking theme with its folk feel that gradually intensifies as you get along. Ending with a motet where 3 of the musical ideas get stacked on top of each other.

The In-Between Zone is inspired by the place of the same name from the Jendora Boxes book trilogy by my dad, Kevin Murphy. It is a place on must go through when teleporting between worlds. A place without gravity and the only light emanates from the portals on either side. You wouldn't want your destination portal to disappear whist inside the In-Between Zone, lest you be stranded for eternity, drifting in a place between realities.

If not already unsettled by the prospect of multiple realities, Unraveling Reality will explore the disintegration of reality within your own mind. The music follows this erratic and volatile concept with its fast paced tempos and startling mood changes.

Ragnarök, just like the mythological story, is where this musical journey will end. Here I've chosen some of my favourite moments from the epic as the names of the individual movements within the piece. There is lots of influence of progressive metal bands such as Stratovarius and Ayreon as well as a electronic synthesizer sounds taking on a much bigger role. Although it might not be quite noticeable at first there is although a lot of influence from numerous EDM genres
